This was recorded at one of Woodstock Chimes's annual warehouse sales, where they fill a huge room with musical products and let the public sample it all.
Made with the kind permission of owner Garry Kvistad (also of both the Steve Reich and Nexus percussion ensembles), who gave us the challenge at the time to, "Don't just record – perform!"
So in the foreground, Bill is playing with giant Windsinger chimes, six feet long and as thick as your arm ('cept they're hollow,) and an enormous gong.
It's wonderfully free and abstract sound environment to walk around in, and always made you feel like you were in Santa's workshop (with a lot of giggling, happy elves making toys). And you could take some toys home with you, too!
